Former Bengaluru IT Professional Dies After Lightning Strike While Inspecting Agricultural Fields Near Mysuru
A 43-year-old former Bengaluru IT professional who left his job to pursue agriculture was killed after a lightning strike while inspecting paddy fields near Mysuru. He was declared dead on arrival at two hospitals. The incident highlights weather-related risks in farming and leaves behind his wife and a Class 9 son.
The deceased, who had recently resigned from his information technology job in Bengaluru to pursue agriculture alongside a colleague, was visiting farmland near Mysuru when the incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. He was engaged in inspecting paddy fields and picking fruit when he was struck by lightning and collapsed on the spot.
He was immediately taken to two hospitals for emergency medical attention; however, doctors at both facilities declared him dead on arrival.
The man is survived by his wife and a son studying in Class 9. His final rites were performed in his native Heravanad village located in Kodagu district.
The incident has drawn condolences from those acquainted with him and has also highlighted concerns regarding the risks associated with farming activities, particularly exposure to unpredictable weather conditions. The case comes amid a growing trend of urban professionals leaving corporate careers to take up agriculture.
